Gulf geopolitics & regional order
GCC politics, Saudi–Iranian dynamics, alignment and hedging, succession and domestic stability, and the energy–security nexus.
Ephemeris Advisory LLP is an independent geopolitical and security research consultancy headquartered in London. We examine Gulf strategic dynamics, defence agreements and transnational security cooperation through neutral, non-partisan policy research — produced for a small number of institutional clients, never for publication.
Ephemeris is structured for one purpose: judgements that decision-makers can rely on, produced without institutional alignment, public audience or political mandate.
We accept no government mandate and take no public position. Our analysis does not advocate for any state, party or faction in the regions we study.
All research is unofficial. We do not release findings to mass media, run public campaigns, or attach clients' names to published commentary.
Work is led by senior regional security analysts from European think-tank backgrounds, supported by an invitation-only network engaged case by case.
Our mandate is deliberately narrow — the strategic politics and security architecture of the Middle East, centred on the Gulf.
GCC politics, Saudi–Iranian dynamics, alignment and hedging, succession and domestic stability, and the energy–security nexus.
Bilateral and multilateral defence pacts, basing and access arrangements, arms transfers, interoperability and alliance credibility.
Gulf and Red Sea maritime security, counter-terrorism, intelligence liaison, border management, and cyber and critical-infrastructure cooperation.
Trajectories in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen; escalation pathways; ceasefire, mediation and de-escalation dynamics.
Time-based scenario planning, early-warning indicators and policy options for institutions, governments and long-term investors.
Multilingual open-source collection, geolocation and chronolocation, document analysis, and cross-checking against vetted specialists.
Each desk reads primary material in the languages of the region and applies the same London-held standards for sourcing and review.
Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen.
Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and the Palestinians.
Iran, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia.
The Israeli–Palestinian arena and Eastern Mediterranean security.
Egypt, Sudan and the Red Sea approaches to the Horn of Africa.
Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Hebrew, Kurdish, French and English. The Maghreb, Sahel and Horn of Africa are monitored as neighbouring theatres and covered by arrangement.
We favour patient analysis over premature certainty. Every assessment is traceable, reviewed, and explicit about what remains uncertain.
Every judgement carries its sources. Conclusions are delivered only when the underlying evidence can be shown to the client.
Analysts work from local media, official statements, legal texts and social platforms directly — not from translated summaries.
Drafts are challenged by senior desk analysts and independent specialists from the network before delivery.
Geolocation, chronolocation and bias assessment. A single source is a lead; independent sources are a finding.
We set out plausible trajectories, their indicators and their implications — not false confidence in a single forecast.
UK GDPR, sanctions and conflict-of-interest screening are applied to every client and every mandate before work begins.
Ephemeris is led and operated by senior regional security analysts with careers in European research institutes. Around the core team stands a closed, invitation-only network of specialists — former diplomatic and defence practitioners, academics, and vetted in-region sources.
Contributors are engaged mandate by mandate and are never publicly listed or attributed. That protection is what allows serving and former officials, and scholars inside the region, to speak with precision.
Outputs are written for officials, institutional leaders and their staffs — in the register of a policy brief or working paper, not of journalism.
Concise, decision-ready briefs on fast-moving developments: what happened, what is verified, what follows, and what to watch.
Longer-horizon analysis of structural shifts — defence postures, regional alignments, conflict trajectories — with scenarios and indicators.
Rigorous, fully sourced studies in the academic policy tradition, prepared for private circulation and institutional archives.
Commissioned research and confidential oral briefings, including scenario exercises for leadership teams and crisis groups.
All products are circulated privately to clients and invited recipients under written confidentiality terms. Nothing is released to mass media or placed in the public domain without a client's written instruction.
Most mandates begin by introduction. Preliminary enquiries are handled by a partner within one business day.
Every client and mandate undergoes sanctions, legal and conflict-of-interest screening before any work starts.
We agree the question, method, deliverable, timing and confidentiality terms in writing.
Primary-source research, cross-corroboration, expert review and partner sign-off.
The assessment is delivered in writing and, where useful, in a confidential oral briefing session.
Enquiries from institutions, governments, investors and research partners are welcome. Preliminary correspondence is treated in confidence.
Brief enquiries receive an acknowledgement within one business day. Sensitive matters may be routed directly to a partner, and we are content to correspond through channels of the client's choosing.
